A group of Y9 girls met Jack Straw (Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice) the other week.
Alieh, Latoya, Ria, Ebony and Hollyn were fantastic on the day, despite being made to wait for over an hour as Jack made his way over from Southport!

They spoke up well and contributed to the group discussion, and we were all really proud of the way they represented their schools and the project. Please show them this picture if you have a chance.
Trinity students represented Central and East Manchester in the recent city wide swimming finals. Kate Cooper won the freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, fly and medley races.

Student Scott Oakley tells us:
“On Tuesday, a group of Y9 pupils went on a history department trip to Manchester Museum to review and suggest improvements for the Manchester Gallery. We looked at the entire gallery, making notes on all the good points and where improvements were needed.
Later, we analysed artefacts and learnt about their history. Finally, we handed all our ideas in spreadsheet form to the museum so that they could work on making it a more interesting and useful place to learn.” Following on from the visit, the Manchester Museum Lead Educator, Catherine Lumb, has contacted Trinity with the following message; “Trinity students were great!
I showed the work that they did to my colleague and she was really impressed; she believes our Head of Design would love the mind-maps they created on the response to the gallery and the objects. It was a really great session and, although they were a bit quiet, I definitely got what I needed!
We have a learning blog now and I will be writing up a “post” sometime this week, based on the work they did. It should be posted before the end of the month. Keep a look out for it; I'll flag it up to you when it goes live. I look forward to reading the student reviews on the afternoon. I will keep in touch about how we use what they produced.
If you want to bring another group in for anything - just let me know. Always a pleasure!”
Thanks to Head of History, Mr Maguire, for organising the visit.
Y9 student, Latoya Reisner, has recently been attending work experience sessions once a week with M.E.P. Arlene McCarthy. A recent press release tells us more:
“Every Wednesday after school, when many of her peers are doing paper rounds, a Trinity High School pupil helps Arlene and her assistants. Latoya has met Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, and Communities Secretary and Salford MP, Hazel Blears. And after getting an insight into the corridors of power, Latoya now dreams of a future in politics.
She said: ‘It's been a really good, interesting experience. I have been learning about the European Parliament and the job that Arlene does and hopefully I will get the chance to go to Brussels in future. Since starting at Arlene's office, I've done work like drafting press releases and have become really interested in politics. I would like to be an MP or MEP when I get older.’
Latoya's mum, Cordelia Vehery, said: "I'm very proud of the opportunity she's been given. My daughter is very dedicated in everything she does and I'm very pleased that she's doing something that she enjoys and that will increase her knowledge."
