Aims of the Department

  1. To educate all students physically, mentally & socially and to encourage awareness of the benefits of physical activity.
  2. To encourage each student to engage in meaningful and enjoyable physical activity both in and outside of school.
  3. To provide a broad & balanced curriculum for all.
  4. To provide a broad and extensive extra-curricular programme which offers many opportunities in either a competitive or non-competitive sports.

The 2015-2016 KS3 PE Curriculum

All pupils have 2 hours of PE a week. In these lessons students will follow a broad curriculum across the Key Stage. In year 7’s students will have PE lessons in single sex form groups. In year 8&9 students are put into sets again in single sex groupings. Students will follow a 6 week block of work in a variety of activities and will be assessed in each activity.

The 2015-2016 KS4 PE Curriculum

During Key Stage 4 groups will be given the opportunity to follow different pathways, which offers different activities. They will still follow 2 hours of PE per week. The pathways will be Games or individual activities based (see below for an exemple).

Exam Courses:

Students can also take the subject as an option. The department offers 2 Exam courses GCSE PHYSICAL EDUCATION & BTEC FIRST AWARD IN SPORT. Students in addition to their Core PE lessons have an extra 5 x 1 hour lessons per fortnight.

2015 Results

The department scored overall in these subjects: 75% A*-C GRADES.
