French


What is French?

Modern Foreign Languages are for anyone interested in people, communication and travel.

If you are interested in becoming a Primary School Teacher, a language is a huge advantage.

You can continue studying French with the following (and more!);

  • Law
  • Sociology
  • Journalism
  • Maths
  • Science
  • Marketing
  • Accounting
  • Engineering

 

 

Why Study French?

It is useful to study a language because there is a constant increase in the number of businesses which now have links in Europe.

Contrastingly not as many students in Britain are studying a foreign language. Employers want people who can communicate in another language.

 

 

What Will I Learn?

The course provides an opportunity to build on the language skills you have already acquired at GCSE. You will achieve a level of competence where you can use the language confidently in a French speaking environment much more spontaneously that in Year 11.

Year 12 topics include:-

  • Leisure and Lifestyles—including travel and tourism, healthy living and well being, customs, traditions and sport and holidays in modern society.,
  • The Individual and Society—including relationships and responsibilities, youth culture, generation gaps, education and career.

Year 13 topics include:-

  • Environmental Issues—including pollution, transport, energy, conservation and sustainability
  • Social and Political Issues—including, media, advertising, immigration, social exclusion, terrorism and globalisation.
  • Guided Studies—2 of the following: The World of Cinema, The World of Literature, The Regions of France.

 

 

What Do I Need to Study French?

5 A* - C GCSE Grades including English and Maths.

Grade B or above in GCSE French.
