What is ICT?

This subject will give you the opportunity to develop many of the skills so sought after by business today.

This subject will be useful whether you decide to:-

Follow an ICT-orientated career
Study an ICT-orientated course
or
indeed any other subject at a higher level.

 

 

Why Study ICT?

ICT will help to provide a balance with a large variety of other courses on offer in our Sixth Form.

Whether you are considering the Sciences, the Arts, the Social Sciences, or the Creative Arts this course can provide a valuable part of your overall choices.

ICT will not only provide you with a thorough understanding of ICT but as part of your preparation for higher education and/or a career it will also aim to develop:

  • your problem solving skills your ability to analyse
  • appraise and make critical judgements
  • your interpersonal skills necessary for communicating with others your ability to work as part of a team.

 

 

What Will I Learn?

This course can only be studied as a 2 year option and students will leave with a BTEC Extended Certificate in Information Technology.

This qualification will gain the same UCAS points as an A level when applying to University.

ASSESSMENT

The course is made up of 3 mandatory units and 1 optional unit.

Two units will be completed in each of years 12 and 13.

Information Technology Systems
Assessment: Written Examination

Creating Systems to Manage Information
Assessment: Task set and marked Externally

Using Social Media in Business
Assessment: Task set and marked Internally

Website Development
Assessment: Task set and marked internally

 

 

What Do I Need to Study ICT?

5 GCSE grades A* - C

Above all you need to have a keen interest in the subject; be familiar with the software used and have a positive outlook.

This qualification is accessible to all students entering the 6th form. The qualification has been chosen to fit in with many career paths that students may go on to follow where they will come into contact with technology.
