What is Mathematics?

A Level Mathematics is a course that aims to:

  • Extend a range of mathematical skills and use them in more unstructured problems
  • Develop abilities to reason logically and construct mathematical proofs
  • Develop an awareness of the relevance of mathematics to other fields of study, the world of work and society in general
  • Use Mathematics as an effective means of communication

What Will I Learn?

Pure Mathematics will form two thirds of the course. This includes algebra, geometry, trigonometry and calculus.

You will also study:-

Mechanics – the study of the motion or equilibrium of bodies.

Statistics – the study of the collection and interpretation of data and the application of probability theory.


What Do I Need to Study Mathematics?

Preferred grades:

  • Five 'Good' GCSE Grades A* - C
  • GCSE Science grade 5
  • GCSE English grade 5
  • GCSE Maths grade 6 minimum
