Student Life, Support & Enrichment

Extracurricular

Extra-curricular sport allows students to develop skills built in lessons while also discovering new interests and abilities. With support from other colleagues, the department organises a wide range of competitive and non-competitive clubs, teams and activities including:

  • Athletics
  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Cricket
  • Cross-Country
  • Badminton
  • Rugby
  • Fitness Suite
  • Handball
  • Dance
  • Netball
  • Table-Tennis
  • Dodgeball

Each year we host a Sports Day at Sports City for Year 7-10, this is a showcase event, which enables our students to represent their forms and houses.  We have a wide range of events from traditional Track and Field to some other fun events.

We also host an annual Sports Awards evening to celebrate and showcase the commitment and dedication to Team Trinity.  Students can earn a range of sporting awards that recognise both commitment and achievement. From Year Colours through to Full Colours, awards celebrate sustained participation in school sport over one to five years, including regular training and representing the school in fixtures. Individual honours such as Player of the Year, Sports Pupil of the Year, and Sports Personality of the Year recognise exceptional talent, dedication, performance, and contribution to school sport and the wider extracurricular programme.

School productions are an essential and joyful part of Trinity’s extra-curricular calendar, with over 100 students every year taking part in the school play or musical. Whether that be as actors, singers, dancers, technical support, stage managers, costume assistants, make up artists, front of house, or pit band musicians, there is something for everyone to feel confident, develop their skills and make new friends.

The list of previous productions is hopefully impressive and includes:

  • The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
  • Shrek the Musical
  • Peter Pan
  • School of Rock
  • The Wizard of Oz
  • A Midsummer Night’s Dream
  • Oliver!
  • Tales from the Arabian Nights
  • Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat
  • Blood Wedding
  • Oliver Twist
  • Guys and Dolls
  • The Little Shop of Horrors
  • The Crucible
  • Return to the Forbidden Planet
  • Alice in Wonderland
  • The Slave Trade

Over 400 students take advantage of our extensive range of peripatetic music tuition delivered by expert instrumental and vocal tutors, including piano, strings, brass, woodwind, guitar, bass guitar, singing, drums and steel pans and successfully take ABRSM and Rock School graded exams. All lessons are timetabled on rotation during the school day and are accessible to all, regardless of income.

We are proud of our four school choirs who are regularly invited to perform at events across the city. Our school Orchestra and Stage Band are thriving. We rehearse together weekly after-school to prepare for our annual concerts and performances at events such as Open Evening, Presentation Evening and venues such as Manchester Cathedral, St Ann’s Church, RNCM, Manchester University and Z-Arts. Our highly successful steel band entertain us at many school events, including during our 40th Anniversary celebrations. We travelled to Holland for a Music Concert Tour in 2023, with 80 students performing in Germany in Summer 2025.

The music and drama departments collaborate regularly and in recent years have produced sell-out performances of Oliver!, The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, School of Rock and Shrek the Musical.
