Aspiring Medics Update
From Assistant Director of Sixth Form, Dr Alnuamaani:
“It is always a privilege to work with our hard working and ambitious students in the Sixth Form who have a real desire to work in the medical profession and make a positive difference to people’s lives. When these students stay in touch and share their graduation stories with us, it makes a real difference to us and validates the time and energy we, as teachers, spend with them.
I work with our aspiring medics in the Sixth Form, helping them navigate the complex and competitive world of applications to medical and dental school. We have finished the year with a fine group of Year 12 students raising money for charity by holding a staff car wash day. The students raised an impressive £160 for Manchester Mind, a local charity that supports those suffering with their mental health. Earlier in the year, they raised nearly £600 for Breast Cancer Now, with our ‘Wear It Pink’ day.

Former members of the Aspiring Medic Team have also been in touch. Glen began his training at Edge Hill University in the Foundation Year and completed his studies with an
award for highest achiever in advanced medical practice assessment. He contacted me, saying, “I recall all the help and support you provided as I ambitiously decided to apply for medicine.” That help, and ambition, clearly paid off.
Hossein, of TikTok study plate fame, contacted me with the following message “I thought I would let you know that you’re not the only Dr between us now. I have just finished
dental school and passed all exams. Thank you for all your help back in Sixth Form, I remember you got me a practice interview which really helped during the application process.” He graduated from Plymouth University.
John has finished his first year at York University studying medicine and finished in the top 15% of his year. He has said how thankful he is for the study habits instilled during his time in our Sixth Form; they have really helped him manage his workload at University. As we wait for this year’s A-level results, we have awarded Chelsea in Year 13 the £275 Reading List Foundation Scholarship, supporting academically outstanding students to buy books for University, and wish her well as she waits to see if she takes up the offer to study Medicine at either The University of Manchester or York University.”
