Activities Week

Last week, we were delighted that our ‘Activities Week’ could go ahead for the first time since 2019! It was a fabulous week for all year groups and you can see some of the highlights below:

Year 7 – Arts Week

Director of Music, Mrs Madden, tells us more:
“All our Year 7 students took part in a fantastic week of creative activities in Arts Week, culminating in a celebratory Showcase event last Friday. The students each experienced a day at Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) working with tutors from MMU and the RNCM on an exciting Indonesian Gamelan and Shadow Puppetry project. They also attended Z-Arts in Hulme to participate in West African Drumming, Dance and Spoken Word and Poetry workshops looking at Protest themes.
During two days based at school, the pupils selected an extended project in Music, Art or Drama led by Trinity staff, working on Band Skills, Film Soundtracks, Sculptures inspired by Giacometti, Technical skills for Drama and an hilarious dramatic version of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes.
Throughout the week, the children learned about famous people who also have creative talents in the arts such as Einstein who played the violin, and they were awarded Superstar awards for showing engagement, effort and Trinity Together values. The Showcase was an awesome display of talent, with some highlights being the live band performances, the drama play and the rapping. The students enjoyed the week so much – here are some examples of what they said about Arts Week:

I am proud of not giving up when it was hard and finishing my art sculpture to the best of my ability
I am proud of playing many instruments over the whole week
I enjoyed working with different people and learning lots of new things
It was great to meet people I wouldn't normally talk to and I made new friends
This was the best Showcase I've ever seen and thanks for having us involved - it was an amazing week!Gill Balfour, Creative Manager at Z-Arts
I just wanted to say how great it was to be able to come and watch the culmination of a fantastic week of arts activity last Friday. The young people were absolutely brilliant and clearly had a very memorable and transformational experience. There’s obviously some amazing talent at Trinity and we’d love to do more work with your students in the future.Rachael Jones, Pathfinders Programme Manager from RNCM

Congratulations to all the Year 7 children and thank you so much to all the Trinity staff and project leaders from MMU, RNCM and Z-Arts. It was a wonderful week – if you would like to see an overview, watch this video!”

Year 8 – Peak District, Chill Factore and the Beach!

Our Year 8s experienced a two night residential trip to the Peak District with a variety of outdoor activities, a day learning to ski at the Chill Factore and a day of orienteering and games at Formby beach.

Year 9 – Enterprise Week

Some of our Year 9s had visits throughout the week to places including Alton Towers and Manchester United, whilst other were in school learning how to be business entrepreneurs! The week ended with a fabulous ‘marketplace’ event in the Sports Centre and an incredible £612 was raised for our three chosen charities; Action Aid – Period Poverty, Cancer Research and Unicef (for Ukraine).

Year 10 – Work Experience

For our Year 10 students, they had their first taste of the world of work in a variety of different work placements, including the following; Journalism (BBC), Construction (Kier), Retail (Marks and Spencer), Higher Education (Manchester Metropolitan University), Community (Scope Charity Shop) and Primary Schools (Armitage CofE Primary School). A group also spent time at the Crown Prosecution Service and took part in a mock trial

Year 12 – Higher Education

For Years 12s, they had visits to universities (Huddersfield and Lancaster), a cultural capital visit to the Imperial War Museum, work relating to UCAS and a fun ‘scavenger hunt’ teambuilding activity in Manchester City Centre.
