Advent assemblies
In our year group acts of worship, the school took time to mark the beginning of the Christian season of Advent. The assemblies took us on an advent journey (or pilgrimage). Staff and students gathered in a darkened Drama Studio with seats facing towards the tables of candles at the centre of the room. Prayers at the four stations were focused on the advent themes of ‘hope, peace, joy and love’, and were interweaved with the Year 7 Singers leading the Taizé song ‘Wait for the Lord’.
The assemblies finished with the Advent hymn ‘O Come, O Come Emmanuel’, and a commission in the season of Advent as the school prepares to celebrate Christmas.
In the SIAMS inspection, great praise was given to our school Chaplain Rev Dr Steve Birkinshaw (picture top right). The report said:
“Collective Worship is meticulously planned and thoroughly evaluated. It celebrates the rich faith heritage of the school community. It invites all to encounter moments of stillness and spiritual nature.”
These Advent Services are a great example of how our Chaplain uses his gifts and talents in a wonderful way for the benefit of our whole community. Thankyou Rev Dr Birkinshaw for your day to day work and in preparation for the SIAMS inspection.
