Art and Maths Event at the Whitworth Art Gallery
From Course Director of KS5 Mathematics, Mr Balcombe:
“On Wednesday, 5th June, 24 students from Year 9 visited the Whitworth Art Gallery to experience an ‘Art and Maths’ event. It was run by PGCE Maths students from the University of Manchester. A wide variety of creative events took place to engage the students to use artistic skills and mathematical ability in tandem. The students painted ‘pi’ with colours selected by the digits of ‘pi’, they solved grid problems, created tessellations, drew symmetrical rangoli patterns, created thread sculptures, painted with probability and also ballet danced according to ‘pi’ music. The students were a credit to the school and were enjoying themselves so much that they had to be dragged away from each of the activities!”
