Biomedical and Ecological Science Residential

Last weekend, Dr Alnuamaani and 5 of her colleagues form the science department accompanied 50 year 10 students to a Biomedical and Ecological Science Residential.

Dr Alnuamaani writes:

“We visited the Field Studies Centre, Rhyd-y-Creuau, in the heart of Snowdonia. We were joined by 10 members of the University of Manchester’s Faculty of Biology, Medicine, and Health,  ranging form undergraduate and post graduate students, to Senior Lectures, Professors and the Vice Dean of the faculty. On Friday night our guests entertained our students with a ‘speed dating’  style session describing their research and what it is like to be a student at the University. On Saturday and Sunday, students were taught by the field studies centre staff and Trinity teachers. Students learned ecological field work techniques, studied how lichen can act as a living indicator of pollution, how to identify photosynthetic pigments in plants, and how to identify invertebrates  living in fresh water.

Saturday night saw us enjoying a keynote lecture from Banji Adewumi, the University’s Director of Equality Diversity and Inclusion. She taught us to embrace our differences and to be proud of  who we are. The University and Centre Staff were very impressed with the engagement and politeness of our students. We were all very proud of them”. Thank you, Dr Alnuamaani.
