CyberFirst Girls’ Competition
Before the half term break, Teacher of I.T, Ms Ashraf accompanied a group of Year 8 students to the CyberFirst girls’ competition. The competition aims to provide a fun and challenging environment to inspire the next generation to consider a career in cyber security. The team did tremendously well, reaching the semi-finals, and coming 24th overall. One of the students on the team, Shiloh, shares her experience:
“My team, assigned the name Debutant, were able to successfully progress to the semi-finals of the CyberFirst girls’ competition. The competition ran across England and only 33 teams qualified out of the thousands of schools that initially entered, so it was remarkable to make it that far. The competition venue was at the prestigious St James Building, on Oxford Road. The games commenced at 11:30am and lasted until 3:30pm. The competition gave us the opportunity to probe the field of work known as cyber security, and supplemented us on a new path of keeping safe on the vast virtual structure, the Internet.”
