Flash Bang Event

Course Director of KS3 Science, Ms Walker, tells us more: “We were recently visited by Dr Frank Mair from the University of Manchester, who brought in a fantastic range of Scientific demonstrations for our annual ‘Flash Bang’ event. Year 9 were impressed by the chemistry of why fireworks have different colours and how rocket fuel is used, as well as the explosive thermite reaction. The best moment was when a hydrogen-powered ‘rocket’ water bottle was flown into the audience, to be caught by none other than Mr Sewell!”
