KS5 Chemistry Trip

From KS5 Science Co-ordinator, Dr. Garg:

“The Year 12 chemistry students spent a day at the STEM lab at Bradford University carrying out practical work. They worked in pairs to synthesise the painkiller benzocaine and used several techniques such as refluxing and isolated the product using a filtering technique. They tested the purity of their sample using Infra-red spectroscopy and measured their sample’s melting point. This will help the students with the required practical skills assessment part of the A level chemistry course.’’
