My Neighbour’s Faith
This half term in RE, Year 7 have been studying a unit – ‘what is my neighbour’s faith and how does it impact me?’ Students have been learning about the six world religions and how believers from differ-ent faiths experience God. They have been debating why some people might be theists, atheists and agnostics which has enabled them to reflect on and share their own personal beliefs with their peers. Students made class bunting which celebrated their faith and culture and there was a real appreciation for the diversity within the form groups. Finally they wrote a piece on what would the world be like without RE. Joelle in Year 7 writes:
‘In my opinion, RE has a large impact on the school curriculum and even the world. If the world doesn’t teach RE, we will have less ways to understand others and ourselves. If you only go to a certain place of worship, you may only understand people up to a certain extent, whilst RE lets you understand the diversity within your class, your school and even your community!’
