National Basketball Winners!
Teacher of PE, Ms Fairley, tells us more:
“This year, Trinity made a return to the U17 and U19 schools’ national basketball finals, held at the National Basketball Performance Centre. After last year’s defeat in the finals, the U17 team was hunting for gold as they matched up against Harris City Academy. It was a hard-fought game by our opponents; however, an outstanding performance from GB international Irene boosted the lead, and the final score was 82-50. Unfortunately, this was Irene’s last game playing for Trinity, and she finished in great fashion with a near quadruple-double, closing with 33 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists, and 8 steals, along with the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award. The Coaches’ MVP was awarded to Chiamaka (7 points, 14 rebounds) for her strong performance off the bench.
It was a double success for Trinity as we defended our U19 finals title from last year. St. Peter’s Academy proved to be a fierce opponent, coming out fearless at the start, with the first quarter ending 13-11 in Trinity’s favour. The team stayed persistent, began to pull away, then maintained the lead for the rest of the game, finishing with a final score of 63-43. Trinity played well as a team, with standout performances from Akeala and Sally, who had an excellent game with 16 points, 5 rebounds, and 6 steals, helping to secure the win. However, the star of the show was Jane, who was unstoppable and earned her first MVP and a triple-double (29 points, 11 rebounds, 12 steals). The Coaches’ MVP went to captain Mikayla, who led the team brilliantly. A special mention goes to Mikayla, Anna, and Shiloh, who will be leaving Sixth Form this year. They have contributed greatly to the team and helped Trinity win multiple titles. We wish them all the best moving forward!
