Pride of Britain Award Winner
On Sunday evening, the Pride of Britain awards were aired on ITV and we were thrilled to see one of our Year 7 students, Emmie, presented with the Child of Courage Award for 2020. Emmie was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2017 and received treatment for two and a half years at the Royal Manchester’s Children’s Hospital. In December 2019, Emmie was finally able to ring the bell to mark the end of her treatment. During her time in hospital, Emmie saw how other patients’ families who were staying away from home struggled to have home-cooked meals – and this is how Emmie’s Kitchen was born! Emmie’s Kitchen started in June 2018, supporting families with children in hospital by providing them with a nutritious meal, and has now served a staggering 3500 people. Emmie was surprised with her award by Manchester United star Marcus Rashford, along with Ashley and Jordan Banjo from the dance group Diversity. Well done to Emmie on this magnificent achievement – you are a true inspiration!
