Remembrance Day
On Wednesday, 11th November, all students watched our remembrance assembly, led by Revd Dr Birkinshaw and I, during their period 2 lesson. The assembly opened with a socially-distanced recording of our students playing a beautiful rendition of ‘Amazing Grace’ on the steel pans. Other musical contributions included a stunning solo piece from Year 10 student Esther, ‘hope for a better tomorrow’. The assembly highlighted the work of our armed forces during the pandemic, the work of the Royal British Legion and we remembered William Thirlwell, who was a solider in World War 1 and lived on the same street as the school – Higher Cambridge Street. A clock in our drama studio is dedicated to William Thirlwell and each year we add a reminder next to the clock about the sacrifices made by others. Last year, a small wooden cross was added and this year, a face mask with ‘lest we forget’ will be displayed. We then held a one minute silence and ended the assembly with a prayer led by our Head Boy and Head Girl.
