South Asian Heritage Month

From Head of RE Miss Bansal: “This month at Trinity we are celebrating South Asian Heritage Month. In assemblies last week, students learned about the significance of this month and heard personal stories from different members of the school community. I told students about my ‘dadi’ (grandmother) who came to the UK in 1967 from East Africa. Teacher of MFL, Mrs Knight, shared the story about her parents being forced to leave Uganda and come to the UK for a new life. Jyoti, one of our Year 13 students, shared the story of her great grandparents housing immigrants in Manchester and Year 13 student Raj also told us about his father Rev Dr Raj Bharat Patta who continues to work to eliminate caste system oppression. Students were also given an opportunity to try a pakora – a deep fried delicacy at break time last Thursday and they watched a music video in form time of a famous Bollywood song ‘bole chudiyan’ meaning ‘the bangles are saying.’ There will be more activities to follow this month.”
