STEM Roadshow
The BAE Systems Education Programme which is delivered in partnership with the RAF and the Royal Navy presented to our year 7 and 8 students. They experienced a performance that enlightened them about the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths).
The performance looked at a fantastical journey from the bottom of the Mariana Trench in the Pacific Ocean to the outer limits of our Solar System. It offered our pupils the chance to consider the engineering challenges and solutions that are needed to explore hostile environments, for example, under the ocean or in deep space. It asked questions about how we solve the problems of putting human beings in these places?
The show looked at the scale of the oceans and outer space. It examined some of the fascinating facts about them. For example, just how much water is there on the Earth? How vast is Space? What size are the planets in the solar system? And what are the specific engineering challenges around space travel?
It also gave students the opportunity to put their communications skills to the test. Engineers need to be skilled, creative and scientific, but they need to be great communicators too!
The finale of the show demonstrated just how large our sun is, this was literally out of this world! Thank you Mr Barnes for organising this event.
