World Book Day
From LRB Manager, Mr Richardson: “Last week we marked the 25th annual World Book Day in a number of ways: Tuesday saw a large group of lucky Year 7s attending an event with award-winning writer Karl Nova, and each student took home a signed copy of his most recent book. On Thursday students received their book tokens and had the opportunity to exchange them in school for one of the brilliant WBD books – Sophie McKenzie’s ‘Boy, Missing’ was the firm favourite, but we have some copies of the other titles still available for students to claim. The tokens can also be exchanged in bookshops and most supermarkets. At the end of the day, students met in the LRB for our WBD quiz (one of our best yet, if I do say so myself!) and, while some of our best reading brains were present, Mariyah and Maris in Year 10 tore ahead to comfortable victory – well done to everyone. Finally, we launched a competition asking students to respond creatively to the question WHY READ? The prize is huge and the interest has been strong so far, so don’t miss out! Entries can be submitted through SMHW.”
