Young Writers

Mr Richardson writes:

Our creative writers have had an adventurous few weeks. At the end of April, 26 students travelled to Downing College, University of Cambridge, to attend the 2023 First Story Festival, where they participated in workshops led by professional writers, toured the university and met author Manjeet Mann. It was an amazing experience, inspiring for students and staff alike.

Following the Easter break, writers took part in the Connect North West event, again organised by First Story, this time in partnership with University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University. Our mentor for the day was Reece Williams, once a Trinity student and now a professional poet and writer. Students looked at Manchester, its people, buildings and spaces as inspiration to create a short poem, and we’ve been overjoyed to learn since that some of our students’ pieces are being considered for inclusion in the city’s UNESCO City of Literature celebration later in the year.

A final piece of incredibly exciting news is that one of our Year 10 writers, Samara, has won a place on a week-long writers’ residential at Lumb Bank in July. Samara submitted a sample of writing for consideration and managed to secure a spot despite lots of competition. Well done, Samara!

Our creative writing club, the We Write Workshop, meets on Wednesdays in the LRB and all year groups are welcome. Sessions will resume from 17th May.

You can find a short write-up of Connect and the Festival on the First Story website, with some representation for Trinity in both:
