Youth Parliament
Year 11 student, Virginia, tells us about her recent experience of her visit to the House of Commons:
“I am a member of the Youth Parliament for Manchester. At the last election where young people in Manchester voted, I was elected as their representative. My role is to make sure that youth voice across Manchester is heard and that I fulfill my manifesto promises, relating to equal opportunities and mental health services in the city.
“I recently travelled to London for the House of Commons sitting. This was a nationwide event where all members of the Youth Parliament representatives from across Great Britain and British overseas territories, such as the Virgin Islands, came together to vote on what issue we would like to spend the rest of our two year term campaigning on. After a day of debating and sitting in the House of Commons we all voted on the cost of living crisis as the British Youth Parliament’s main campaign initiative for 2023.”
