A Journey Through Music
Year 11 student, Amelia, tells us about a recent trip for music GCSE students: “On Tuesday, 5th October, the Year 11 GCSE music group went to a concert at the Bridgewater Hall featuring the Hallé Orchestra. The concert began in the Renaissance era (Giovanni Gabrieli – Sonata no. XIII) and brought us all the way back to the modern times (Hans Zimmer – Pirates of the Caribbean). For me, the most interesting piece was by Terry Riley called ‘in C’ – which was different compared to others composed at the time. The structure of this piece is written so that the musicians can play when they want and how they like. The overall concert felt like it was perfectly tailored to those studying GCSE music – it was engaging and informative, as well as entertaining.”
