Seasonal advice
As we move through a period of very warm weather, we wanted to reassure parents and carers about the steps we take in school to help students remain safe, comfortable and ready to learn.
We are fortunate that many areas of the school are well equipped to manage warmer conditions. Classroom temperatures vary slightly across the site, but most benefit from cooling and fresh air systems which help maintain a comfortable learning environment. The main school building also supports cooler air flow into teaching spaces, ensuring conditions in most lessons remain very good, even during hot weather.
At break and lunchtime, students have access to shaded and cooler spaces. Year 7 & 8 students have exclusive use of the Temple dining room, a cooled space. In the playground, seven large sun canopies provide shaded areas for students. Years 9 & 10 also have exclusive use of the main dining room, which is air conditioned for their break times.
We have also relaxed uniform expectations during this period of exceptionally hot weather. Students do not need to wear blazers and are encouraged to dress sensibly within the temporary arrangements. A sensible sun hat or cap may be worn outside for protection. Hats and caps should not be worn inside and should be used for sun protection rather than as a fashion item.
Hydration is especially important. We encourage parents and carers to send their child to school with a refillable water bottle each day. Students can refill bottles during the day, and we will continue to remind them to drink regularly, particularly before and after break, lunchtime and PE.
Our PE department will adapt activities where necessary. During very warm weather, staff will make sensible choices about intensity and type of activity, selecting lower-intensity options where appropriate. Student safety remains the priority.
Parents and carers can help by ensuring students bring a refillable water bottle, apply sun cream where appropriate, wear suitable clothing, and take care when travelling to and from school in the heat.
We will continue to monitor conditions and make adjustments where needed, maintaining a calm and purposeful school day while ensuring students are safe and well.
However, temperatures are expected to return to normal next week, so please remember we are back to full school uniform from Monday 29th June 2026.
