Readathon

‘Read for Good’ has been running its “Readathon” in individual schools since 1984 and Trinity has been one of the charity’s biggest supporters, led by Ms Parker in the English Department. The charity has been working on a campaign to unleash the power of Readathon on whole cities. Last year, 27,000 children in Liverpool and 28,000 children in Leicester signed up to get reading at the same time. This year, they have joined forces with the team at ‘Read Manchester’ to run a citywide Readathon for one glorious fortnight in Manchester from 17th – 28th June, culminating in a citywide ‘Drop Everything and Read’.

The charity organisers are launching a campaign to encourage schools to sign up and have asked Ms Parker to be an “ambassador” to champion the charity’s work to other schools. Trinity has taken part in 16 Readathons since 1995, raising an amazing £11,530, and we are really looking forward to the citywide read in June. Money raised will support the charity’s work at the Manchester Royal Children’s hospital, and 20% of the money raised by Trinity will be used to buy books for our LRB. The main aim of the charity and the English Department is just to get children reading (with all the benefits this brings) and we think a mass Readathon will be just the thing to build a buzz around books and reading for fun!
