Black History Month
Pastoral Tutor, Mr Dennis, and seven students led our assemblies on Black History month last week. Mr Dennis chose the hymn ‘Jubilate’ – so familiar to the students we sang it without the words on the screen! The assemblies showed how six inspirational black inventors, politicians and academics – including Arthur Lewis, the first black professor in the UK – had made their mark in the world – and the injustice and intolerance that they had to battle. Mr Dennis left us with some powerful words:
“For me, it’s about making your own steps forward in life, so when others look back on history, what will they say about your footsteps, and what will they say about your life and your achievements?”
