Celebrating ‘Pi Day’
Teacher of Maths, Ms Begum, tells us more:
“On Friday the 14th of March, Trinity celebrated Pi Day! We hosted our annual Pi Day scavenger hunt and Pi recital, as well as a Pi representation competition. This year’s recital was won by Alfie in Year 9 who recited 168 digits of Pi, beating his previous record. He was followed by Nathan in Year 13 and Josiah in Year 7 as runners up – well done to all participants.
We had a great number of submissions for the Pi Representation competition, which was a new addition to our celebrations for this year. The winners were Sam and Eva in Year 9, who encoded a secret message with their skills learnt in our Year 9 code breaking club, using a Caesar cipher shifted by the digits of Pi! Our runners up for this competition were Libby, Sophie and Amaya in Year 8 who programmed a micro bit to display the pi symbol and its digits, with a brilliant poem submitted by AY in Year 7 winning 3rd place. The maths team were amazed by the participation and atmosphere during Pi Day by all students and staff!”
