First Story Young Writers Anthology

LRB and Media Manager, Mr Richardson, tells us more:

“We wrote a book! I Break Out of the Herd is an anthology of stories and poems written entirely by Trinity’s Young Writers. These students attended 16 after-school workshops with our writer-in-residence, poet Ruth Awolola. They played with words, took risks and tried new things, each exploring their own interests and working to discover their individual voice.

And now, after a summer of work behind the scenes by industry professionals, the printed volume is in our hands! Naturally we had a party to celebrate. Our writers and their families got together in the LRB for presentations, readings and a book signing, with Ruth returning as our special guest.

This is the result of a second year working with First Story, a young people’s writing charity. We’re about to start the programme again for the 2024-25 academic year, this time working with  award-winning writer and performer Ben Mellor. It is an amazing opportunity for any students who have an aspiration to write, be that stories, songs, entertainment for stage and screen, or for fun.  They can speak to the staff in the LRB if they are interested in filling one of the few remaining places.”
