RNCM Anniversary Concert
From Director of Music, Mrs Madden:
We were delighted to present our annual celebration concert at the Royal Northern College of Music on Wednesday 23rd April, and in our 41st year, it was thrilling to hear 200 talented Trinity students performing at the highest level, with such joy and enthusiasm. The children performed such a wide range of music, from orchestral classic Farandole by Bizet and string music by Vivaldi, to songs from musicals such as The Bare Necessities, The Schuyler Sisters, The Rhythm of Life and Defying Gravity, not to mention some Quincy Jones and a whole Abba tribute, with some excellent audience participation!
Our four choirs sang in such beautiful harmony, and the superb steel pan ensembles had us all dancing in the aisles! We were blown away by the stunning piano duet, Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Waltz, performed by Naomi and Noah in Y11, and also some incredible improvisations and solos from several students within the bands, which showed a high level of skill and maturity. Woodwind, Brass, Strings and Guitars all showcase the talents of our instrumentalists, ranging from Y7 to Y13. The quality of each and every performance was so high, and many in the sold-out audience commented on the confidence and enjoyment demonstrated by all the performers.
It was the perfect occasion to celebrate the achievements of our Year 11s and Year 13s who received certificates and special awards in recognition of their contribution to the musical life of the school. We were honoured that Manchester’s Vice Lord-Lieutenant attended the concert, and afterwards wrote to Mr Nicholls: “We were truly impressed with the wide-ranging programme of music and your fabulous students – you must be incredibly proud to head up a school with so many gifted young people”. Thank you to all the pupils, staff, parents, carers and members of our community who helped to make our RNCM concert such a joyful and memorable occasion.
