School Council Project – Promoting Education About Racism And Black History
From Head of House, Ms Coxon:
“The school council have been working hard whilst we have been away from school to ensure their ideas and projects are heard. In particular, they are passionate about promoting black excellence and raising awareness about the racism and difficulties black people face. Throughout the year there have been many discussions, with Anael (pictured below) in Year 10, being the driving force behind promoting change.
This week, Anael and the school council have launched a social media project which is going to give staff and students a voice to speak about black people who have inspired their lives. The project wants students to express themselves and show how they are feeling through art or poems. Over the final weeks of term, and then once again when we start in September, you can keep an eye out for regular posts on the school’s Instagram and Twitter. As well as posts of work from students, you can look forward to educational videos and reading recommendations which tell the history of black people. The response so far has been fantastic, especially on twitter (please see below and on the next page.) The school council would like to pass on a big thank you to every student and staff member who has sent videos, art work or written pieces in and make sure you keep your eyes on our social media to see your work shown.”
