Sixth Form Updates
Dr Alnuamaani, Assistant Director of Sixth Form, tells us more:
“It’s been a busy term in the Sixth Form. Year 13 students are working hardon UCAS applications and it’s great to see interviews for Universities starting to take place and offers coming in. To support students, earlier in the month the Sixth Form took part in a range of careers week activities. Universities including UCLAN, Huddersfield University, MMU, UOM and University of Leeds came into school to speak to students at lunchtime about their courses, whilst apprenticeship providers such as MMU, AJ Bell, KPMG and Ask Apprenticeships also visited, giving Year 13s an opportunity to apply for the degree apprenticeship programmes. During the Wednesday afternoon enrichment sessions, Year 12 participated in a speed networking event speaking to employers from a range of backgrounds including the NHS, Microsoft, Manchester CPS and an engineering and not-for-profit company. Year 12 students are now working on their CVs and covering letters to find placements for our Professional Work Placement Week in the summer term.

As part of our commitment to PSHE education, Year 12 had their first PSHE day last month. The day reinforced our commitment to being open about our mental health needs. Students attended sessions on managing anxiety, exam stress and explored different ways to manage these using breathing, movement and relaxation techniques and mindfulness colouring. We also had sessions on emergency first aid delivered by Street Doctors, an introduction to British Sign Language and a session on healthy relationships. This was delivered in partnership with Greater Manchester Youth Network who will support us to deliver another session in the Spring term.”
