Three Countries Music Concert Tour

From Director of Music, Mrs Madden: “The Trinity Music Department had an unforgettable Concert Tour with 80 talented musicians and singers from Years 9-13, 9 dedicated staff, 2 coach loads of equipment, 2 fantastic drivers, (one of whom was an ex-Trinity student!) and boundless enthusiasm to share our passion for music with the welcoming folk of Germany, Netherlands and Belgium!

We travelled overnight by coach and ferry and arrived at our beautiful hostel DJH Nideggen late afternoon. It was a stunning rural location with lots of space to rehearse and relax, including great games and sports facilities.

On Saturday, we visited the UNESCO World Heritage city of Aachen in Germany, a tourist hot-spot founded by the Romans and famed for its thermal springs. We were so excited to give a lunchtime concert at the famous Rotunde am Elisenbrun-nen, which had the benefit of two stages for our Orchestra, Brass Group, String Group, Guitar Group, Stage Band, Gospel Choir, Choir, Y10 and Y11 bands and Steel Pans. We attracted a large and appreciative audience, many of whom stayed for the full 90 minute set and who asked if we were a specialist music school!

In the afternoon, we enjoyed a cultural trip to the historic town of Valkenburg, with its ancient caves, castle ruins, city gates, quaint shops and tourist attractions such as the chairlift and summer toboggan run. The students and staff has lots of fun exploring and ended the day back at the hostel for dinner and an idyllic forest walk to watch the sun set. Magical!

On Sunday, we spent the day at Dreilandenpunt, a popular tourist destination at the point where the three countries of Germany, Netherlands and Belgium meet. The students explored the maze and then entertained the crowds with another brilliant concert; many of the public were singing & dancing along to favourites such as ABBA, Don’t Stop Believing, Teenage Dirt Bag, Lord of the Dance, In The Mood, Soul Bossa Nova, Man in the Mirror and Defying Gravity.

After an interesting trip to Hoensbroek Castle in the Netherlands, where we explored the dungeons and turrets, we enjoyed our final evening relaxing and playing games at the hostel, and even had another sunset walk.

The journey home on Monday was filled with lots of singing, our traditional coach quiz and plenty of sleep! We arrived home on Monday night extremely tired, but so proud and happy and with memories to last a lifetime. The students were superb ambassadors for Trinity and the whole trip was an absolute pleasure. Now…to start planning for our Concert Tour in 2027! Watch this space!”
