Year 10 Science Residential
From Teacher of Science, Ms Baker: “50 of our Year 10 students went on an exciting field trip to Castle Head field studies centre in Cumbria last weekend. On Friday, the students had a chance to speak to staff from the University of Manchester about their areas of interest and research. On Saturday, we conducted ecological experiments, looking at soil temperature and pH at different woodland sights, pond dipping and dissecting owl pellets. In the evening, students were treated to an inspirational address from Prof. Dawn Edge, the first black female professor at the University of Manchester, on her research into mental health and inclusion. On Sunday, students planned and conducted their own research into factors affecting plant populations. The students were a credit to themselves and impressed all the staff from the University, Castle Head and Trinity!”
