National Youth Jazz Orchestra Workshops

Director of Music, Mrs Madden, tells us more: “Trinity Stage Band was lucky enough to experience a fantastic workshop with an expert from the National Youth Jazz Orchestra this week. Ahnansé, a London-born composer, conductor, producer and multi-instrumentalist who has been a leading force of jazz for the last 20 years, visited Trinity to work with our musicians for a two-hour session. Together, Ahnansé and the students delved into the development of musical language and expression in order to become confident in improvisation, a new skill for many. The students and staff had so much fun, approaching the art of improvisation from a new perspective, looking at different shapes and sounds, musical speech and sentences, until every single student was able to improvise along with a groove. We were grateful for advice about our upcoming jazz performances at RNCM and can’t wait for our next workshop and concert with NYJO at Band on the Wall in June.
