Advent Carol Service

From Director of Music, Mrs Madden:

“On Friday 5th December, we were hosted by St Ann’s Church for our annual Advent Carol Service. Over 150 students performed a selection of meaningful and joyful songs and music reflecting the Advent message, alongside some beautiful readings and prayers, led by Reverend Adam Robertson. Woodwind Group opened the service with Bach’s Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring and the String Group provided a moment of peace and stillness with their rendition of In the Bleak Midwinter. Four choirs were featured during the service, with enthusiastic joy from Year 7 Singers and such maturity and eloquence from Sixth Form Singers. The Choir and Gospel Choir sang beautifully and the sound of a full congregation with massed choirs singing the carols was incredibly uplifting. Our service ended outside with a blessing around the crib and a rendition of O Little Town of Bethlehem accompanied by the Brass Group, which drew huge crowds of shoppers and office workers to join in our festive spirit. One member of the congregation said “I’m so glad I came – really high quality music-making – you must be so proud. A lovely interlude to my Christmas shopping!”. Thank you and congratulations to all the students for their commitment and hard work and thank you to all the staff involved.”
