The Big Clean Up

From Head of Maple House, Mr Dootson:

“Our school Eco Council plays a vital role in making a positive difference both within school and in the local community. The team are made up of enthusiastic, responsible students and the group works together to raise environmental awareness and take meaningful action on key issues such as litter, recycling and sustainability. Their commitment continues to have a visible and lasting impact on our school environment.

One of the most effective ways our Eco Council supports the community is through organised clean-up events. Each year, students take part in activities such as litter-picking in the surrounding streets and across the school grounds, helping to create a cleaner, safer and more welcoming environment for everyone. These efforts demonstrate clearly that young people can make a real difference and inspire others to take pride in their surroundings and get involved.

Many eco councils in schools across the country carry out similar initiatives, including maintaining litter-free sites and participating in wider community clean-ups as part of national campaigns. Through these collective efforts, our Eco Council not only improves the local environment but also promotes a strong sense of community pride and encourages everyone to work together to protect and sustain it for the future.”
