Black History Month
October is Black History Month in the UK. This year’s theme is “Saluting our Sisters”. As a school we have been celebrating inspirational women, from all around the globe. Assemblies were delivered to students by Ms Ripley and Mr Pritchard, that celebrated Betty Campbell (Wales First Black Female Headteacher), Claudia Jones (Civil Rights Campaigner), Doreen Lawrence (Justice Activist) and Manchester’s very own Locita Brandy (Manchester Carnival Creator). We also watched an interview with our school governor Canon Dr Addy Lazz Onyenobi (University Lecturer and Church of England Racial Justice Member). Inspirational posters were placed around school which highlight the amazing achievements of women both in the UK and abroad.
We were delighted to host Zimbabwean born rapper and poet Meduulla who came into school to run a poetry workshop for Year 7 and Year 8 students. Each student explored their afro hair identity by writing and performing their own poems. Meduulla was extremely impressed by the creativity of Trinity students and looks forward to visiting us again in the future.
