Buddhist Centre
On Tuesday of this week, two Year 9 classes were offered a wonderful opportunity to learn about aspects of Buddhism and get an answer to the question, ‘What’s it like to be a Buddhist?’ We were warmly welcomed to the centre by Veronica Voiels (an ex-Trinity parent) and once we had removed our shoes we were invited into the main meditation hall. The striking giant Buddha statue, the presence of two Sri Lankan Buddhist monks and the enthusiasm of our guides, made this a very worthwhile visit. The students were treated to some meditative chanting, took part in a short meditation and were encouraged to ask questions. It was surprising to learn that one of the monks had joined a monastery at the age of 13 with the blessing of his family. His words on the subject of developing loving kindness certainly gave us food for thought.
