Latin Club

Head of History, Mrs Wright, tells us about an exciting extra-curricular activity for our students: “This term has seen a number of our Year 7 students participate in a Latin Club, organised by the ‘Manchester         Classics for All’ programme, which arranges for post-graduate students to teach Classical Civilisation and Latin to local schools. Robert Fairbairn, a masters student of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Manchester, has been teaching our students the Cambridge Latin Course and introducing the language and history to our young scholars. Not only have they been learning basic Latin sentence structure, but they have     also learned about the Ancient festival of Saturnalia and the wider Roman society. Charlie Quigley, 7BDA, who attends the classes, reported that ‘Latin Club is a very unique experience where you can learn an interesting language and learn about the Roman success and what makes them a big part of our history.’”
