Message from Parents and Carers

Thank you for your continued support in getting all students back into school safely over the past fortnight. All of us are committed to providing the best education possible for your child, while securing the health and safety of our whole school community. An important reminder for you NOT to send your son / daughter into school if they show any of the well documented symptoms of Covid-19.
The atmosphere in school is excellent. On our metrics, ‘achievements’ remain high at 4200 records made – the same as last year, and the number of behaviour points accumulated so far this term has dropped from 887 last year to 184 this year – a noteworthy improvement. It would also be useful to share some general points with you:

School opening times The school remains fully open for all year groups. Students who are admitted from 7:15am to 8:30am are ‘on time’. Departure from school is now staggered by year group with Year 7 the final group to leave classes at 3:15pm.
Attendance at school Overall school attendance for the first 10 days is 96+% across all year groups. This is down from 97.5% this time last year.
Punctuality to school This has improved this year to 2.5% ‘late’. Anticipating some issues with public transport, we have suspended the ‘C3’ detentions for lateness.
Coverage of the curriculum & additional subject support Students are following their full range of subjects at all key stages.
We have introduced a ‘period 6’ from 3:10pm – 4:10pm on two days a week where selected Year 11 students are supported by their class teachers in their ‘option subjects’.
Year 13 students have all been entered for their AS ‘resits’ in October as an opportunity to ‘prove’ they have learnt their course over lockdown.
Additional staff have been employed to support the Covid-19 ‘catch up’ in English and maths.
Remote learning in the future Students who are currently absent for prolonged periods are receiving work set by teachers via email.
If part of a year group / a whole year group is sent home due to a confirmed Covid-19 case, ‘Show My Homework’ will be used to set work, communicate with teachers and receive feedback. The work will mirror as much as possible that is being taught in school.
Contact with parents We have put a ‘Scene Setting’ video on the website for parents to watch. There is a covid-19 section on the website where all new information will be stored.
Parents will always receive critical information through the MyEd App, text and email.
Mental health and wellbeing We have a targeted list of students who were identified as ‘concerns’ during lockdown. All of these students have had pastoral meetings, with over two thirds of them now not reporting any anxiety at KS3 and KS4.
