Season of Advent
This week, we have had our traditional ‘from darkness to light’ Advent assemblies. In each assembly, we start in near darkness with the curtains closed and lights dimmed. Through the procession, our Chaplain Dr. Revd. Steve Birkinshaw lights candles from the outside of the room into the centre and the whole room becomes flooded with light. The assembly reflects the tremendous Christian message of the change from darkness in people’s lives to the Light of the World coming when Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour was born. Readings by students were on the four advent themes Peace, Joy, Hope and Love, and together we sang the traditional Advent Hymn ‘O Come O Come Emmanuel’. In the Year 11 Advent service, special prayers for all our students about to sit mock exams were also read.
