Young Writers Festival
From our LRB Manager, Mr Richardson:
One day, 29 students, 360 miles, a few thousand words – our Young Writers hit the road early last term to attend the First Story Festival at Downing College, Cambridge. We Met author Dean Atta, had a tour of the college campus and enjoyed two inspiring workshops with professional writers, before closing the day with a showcase, sharing our creative work with hundreds of young people from all over the country.
Our group of writers has since concluded this year’s programme with charity First Story and our brilliant writer-in-residence, Ruth Awolola. Students’ poems and stories will be published in a Trinity anthology in October.
To complement the above, Elizabeth in Year 8 took part in the Young Writers programme last year. She won a national competition with her poem “Hoarders’ Honeymoon”, a response to a specially-created illustration by Quentin Blake, which has been published in volume 2 of The Leaves, Downing College’s creative writing collection. Congratulations Elizabeth!
