Cadet Exchange

Year 10 student, Thomas, tells us all about his recent travels as part of the cadet exchange programme:

“I was extremely lucky to gain a place on the cadet exchange week to Gibraltar. The week was full of training and activities, and we worked on team building, leadership and technical skills. The trip was consistently exciting and informative throughout.

There were also fun activities such as St Michael’s stunning caves, the siege tunnels, learning about the incredible history of the Gibraltar rock, visiting the port with high speed boats and helicopters used to defend and a sports day.

In a more formal capacity, we met the Governor of Gibraltar and visited the residence of the British monarch. We were also honoured to attend a reception with the Mayor of Gibraltar at the town hall. During this visit I was given the opportunity to play my favourite piece of music on an antique piano for my comrades and the Lord Mayor herself. I was so proud to discover that a picture of this moment made page two of the Gibraltar Chronicle (https://www.chronicle.gi/mayor-hosts-greater-manchester-army-cadet-force/).

I am so grateful to the GMACF for organizing this trip and also the staff who made it such an exciting week. It has been an amazing experience where I have made some fantastic friends and lasting memories.”
