Mayor of Greater Manchester Visit
From Y11 student, Ben W:
“On Friday 24th April, we had an exciting visit from the Mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham. He spoke to our Sixth Formers who are studying Politics and History, Year 11s taking Politics next year, Student Councillors, as well as a Year 10 English class and Sixth Form Students of Criminology and Sociology.
He delivered a powerful talk on his journey into, and during his career in, Politics citing particularly how the injustice surrounding the Hillsborough disaster affected him personally and politically. His talk was really honest and inspirational, and his care for us as young people and the future of Greater Manchester was clear.”
Mr Burnham stayed afterwards to answer many of our questions and take photos with us. Questions ranged from the upcoming local elections and how Labour losses could impact the city, to safety on Public Transport and to his favourite Manchester music.
It was a brilliant opportunity for us to see the person behind the politics and understand the man who shapes so much of Greater Manchester today.”
