Life on an Army Cadets exchange
Thomas in Y9 attended an exchange camp with the Gibraltar Army Cadets, based on Holcombe Moor, just outside Bury. The camp was to enable cadets from Manchester to make new friends and share knowledge with cadets from a much warmer territory-Gibraltar. It was primarily a field craft camp which consisted of learning section attacks, hand signals, creating safe camp areas, building basic shelters and planning military ambushes. Thomas was assessed daily by senior instructors and had two major tests to complete throughout the week. He was taught how to concentrate and think effectively in high pressure situations as well as plan and communicate effectively.
Thomas said “It was a fantastic experience, I have made great friendships and am very much looking forward to visiting Gibraltar next year”.
